Scaling up Physician Clinical Notes Heidi acquires UK AI healthcare platform AutoMedica to strengthen its focus on artificial intelligence.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the move underpins the Melbourne startup’s evolution from an AI scribe for general practitioners (which already supports more than 100 million clinical interactions worldwide) to a suite of AI products.
This follows the $125 million in venture funding Heidi raised last year, including a $98 million Series B at a $703 million valuation in October, and a $27 million Series A top-up seven months ago.
Following the acquisition of Automedica, the healthtech scaleup has launched two new AI products. Heidi Evidence is designed to provide doctors with the latest clinical knowledge. Heidi Comms is an AI partner for healthcare teams that coordinates everything from patient communications to patient care planning.
Heidi Evidence is built in part on Anthropic’s AI model, Claude, and is supported by AutoMedica’s evidence-driven AI framework to provide real-time clinical insights during consultations.

Heidi co-founder and CEO Dr Thomas Kelly said the strategic acquisition will accelerate Heidi’s technology and regulatory capabilities and presence in the UK, while also giving the startup access to the healthcare AI regulatory sandbox, MHRA AI Airlock.
“We believe that for AI to become a true care partner, the integrity of its evidence must be non-negotiable,” he said.
“As general-purpose AI platforms like OpenAI move to ad-supported models, it is natural for consumers to be concerned about hidden influences.”
Dr. Kelly said that concern is paramount in medical settings.
“Bringing transparent, clinical-grade insights into the room makes it easier to deliver quality care, but that information must be unobscured by commercial influences,” he said.
“Our commitment to independent evidence, ad-free, allows us to keep clinicians engaged with their patients, knowing their decisions are built on pure clinical rigor, not a business model.”
