About research

This poll was conducted from April 3, 2026 to April 6, 2026 using probability-based KnowledgePanel®. The poll is based on a nationally representative probability sample of 2,021 adults aged 18 and older.

The study was conducted in English. Data is weighted to adjust for gender by age, race and ethnicity, census region, metropolitan status, education, household income, 2024 vote choice, and party identification. The party identification benchmark is from the 2025 NPORS annual survey, with mid-year adjustments estimated across aggregated KnowledgePanel surveys to account for changes in panelists’ party identification over time. Demographic benchmarks are based on the March 2025 Supplement of the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey (CPS).

  • Gender by age (male, female) (18-29, 30-44, 45-59, 60+)
  • Race/Hispanic (non-Hispanic white, non-Hispanic black, other, non-Hispanic, Hispanic, two or more races, non-Hispanic)
  • Educational background (less than high school, high school, some universities, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or higher)
  • Census region (Northeast, Midwest, South, West)
  • Metropolitan status (metro, non-metro)
  • Household income (less than $25,000, $25,000 – $49,999, $50,000 – $74,999, $75,000 – $99,999, $100,000 – $149,999, $150,000 and above)
  • 2024 Vote Choice (Trump, Harris, Another Candidate, Didn’t Vote)
  • Party ID (Democratic Party, Lean Democratic Party, Republican Party, Lean Republican Party, Independent/Other)

For results based on the entire sample of adults, the margin of sampling error is plus or minus 2.2 percentage points at the 95% confidence level. The margin of sampling error takes into account design effects and was 1.02. The margin of sampling error is higher and depends on the results based on subsamples. In reporting survey results, percentage points are rounded to the nearest whole number. As a result, the percentages for a particular table column may total slightly higher or lower than 100%. For questions that allow multiple answers, the column total can significantly exceed 100%, depending on the number of different answers provided by each respondent.
