SAN FRANCISCO: Meta on Wednesday warned that hackers are using the potential of generative artificial intelligence like ChatGPT to trick people into installing malicious code on their devices.
Security analysts at the social media giant found malicious software disguised as ChatGPT and similar AI tools last month, Chief Information Security Officer Guy Rosen said in a briefing.
“The latest wave of malware campaigns has focused on generative AI technologies that have captured people’s imagination and excitement,” said Rosen.

Meta found and blocked over 1,000 web addresses that were advertised as promising ChatGPT-like tools but were actually traps set by hackers.
Meta has yet to see generative AI being used by hackers for more than decoys, but it is inevitable that it will be used as a weapon, Rosen said.
