Gandhinagar: The state government said on Sunday it approved an action plan for the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI). Over the next five years, the government aims to position the nation as a leader in AI-enabled governance.The action plan, which serves as a time limit blueprint for the state government to equip state governments with advanced AI capabilities, is based on six key aspects: data, digital infrastructure, capacity building, research and development, promotion of startups, and “safe and reliable AI.” Over the next five years, the government aims to train more than 25,000 individuals, including AI students, MSMEs, government employees, machine learning (ML), and related domains.At the annual Chintan Shibir held at Somnath in November 2024, the CM said Gujarat will leverage AI across management frameworks and sectors to lead technology-driven governance and socioeconomic progress. A 10-person task force was then formed with members of key sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, fintech and other sectors. Based on the task force's recommendation, the CM has approved the AI implementation action plan, the official statement said.The government said that “AI and Deep Technology Mission” will be formed. It serves as a professional institutional mechanism, leading the design, implementation and innovation of AI strategies and emerging technologies within state governments. The mission is also mandatory to promote collaboration between startups, academic research and industry.The statement said the action plan will be implemented at a stage that begins with initiatives such as creating a state-level AI data repository, establishing an AI factory and launching department-specific pilot projects.
