Minneapolis — A Minnesota-raised and educated entrepreneur is making headlines in the AI business. Her company Whale Seeker was recognized as one of her top 10 AI projects for sustainable development in the world.
What Whale Seeker actually does might surprise you. Among other things, this technology uses AI software to detect whales using only aerial imagery. It is the brainchild of Emily Charlie Tisser, a graduate of the University of Minnesota.
“We are rapidly detecting marine mammals using inexpensive hardware that anyone can afford,” said Charlie Tisser.
She and her husband, a marine biologist, work with a small team in hopes of helping sustain the oceans and their inhabitants. They hope to do this by tracking wildlife more efficiently and accurately. Their customers buy drones or use planes, take pictures and send them for analysis by Whale Seeker.
“A lot of the decisions are made based on how the population looks, but we don’t really consider how good or standardized the data is for those animals,” said Charlie Tisser. Told. “That’s the problem I wanted to solve.”

“Such global recognition is a reassurance that we were right to keep our guns,” Charlie Tisser said. “We don’t do business with people who circumvent environmental laws or use our tools to make whaling more efficient…we want them to do better.” We will work with them for as long as possible.”
