IAPP and Workday executives detail the nuances of addressing the impact of AI

According to J. Trevor Hughes, CEO and President of IAPP, artificial intelligence, generative AI, and machine learning have always been part of the broader privacy conversation.

He said more than 50% of organizations have raised concerns about AI risks with privacy leaders. “So you see the privacy space, we have 85,000 members around the world, really increasing our skills to respond to this call to action that AI presents to all of us,” he said.
One of those privacy offers is that Barbara Cosgrove, vice president and chief privacy officer at Workday, helped build a framework for using AI at her company. “It's based on our principles, our procedures and our people,” she said.
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2024, Hughes and Cosgrove also discussed:

Hughes is an attorney specializing in electronic commerce, privacy, and technology law. He has testified before the U.S. Congress, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, and the U.K. Congress on issues of privacy, surveillance, and privacy-sensitive technology.
Cosgrove leads international data protection, ethics, and compliance programs, including overseeing global data privacy programs, implementing technology compliance standards, and developing “privacy by design” and machine learning “ethics by design” frameworks.
