Even in the Tiktok era, YouTube viewers continue to climb. Google's iconic video streaming platform has traditionally encouraged creators to create longer videos that can accommodate more ads, but the site's shorts format is growing rapidly. Its growth could explode in the coming months as YouTube CEO Neal Mohan announced that the Google Veo 3 AI video generator will be integrated with YouTube shorts later this summer.
According to Mohan, YouTube shorts are becoming more popular compared to YouTube as a whole. The streaming platform is currently the world's most viewed video source, but shorts have seen an audience of 186%, especially over the past year. According to Mohan, the shorts currently average 20 billion daily views.
YouTube is already equipped with several AI tools, such as Dream Screen, which allows you to create backgrounds for AI videos with text prompts. However, VEO 3 support is significantly upgraded. At the Cannes Festival, Mohan revealed that streaming sites will begin offering integrations with Google's leading video models later this summer. “We believe these tools will open up new creative lanes for everyone to explore,” Mohan said.

This move requires some adjustments to the VEO 3 output, but it appears to be a perfect match. As the name suggests, YouTube shorts are intended for short video content. This format was first launched with a 30-second ceiling, but it increased to 60 seconds. Due to the astronomical cost of the Generate AI, each VEO clip generated is very short, only 8 seconds in the current version of the tool. Slapping some of them together, you have a YouTube short.
