A few months ago, Google announced its new AI video generation tool, Google Vids. According to Google, Vids is an all-in-one writing, producing, and editing assistant that helps businesses tell their stories through video, whether it's HR onboarding, training, pitching to new customers, or product launches.
Google Vids is part of the Google Workplace suite and works with Docs, Slides, and Sheets. You can try Vids today in one of two ways: without AI or with AI.
To test out Google Vids, you'll first need to join Google Workspace Labs (anyone can sign up). Once you've joined, go to the Google Vids page in Docs. Click the plus sign in the bottom right to start creating.
Additionally, Google Workspace has added new generative AI features, including an AI-powered video creation app.
Start by choosing a template – a class overview, a product pitch, a new employee introduction, or a request for help – with nearly 50 templates to start with. Once you've selected a template, you can go scene by scene, adding relevant text, photos, and music until you're happy with your project.
Alternatively, you can click “Help me create it” and let our AI tool create your video step by step by describing it in text prompts (text, audience, length, etc.) You can attach documents uploaded to Google Drive to add more detailed information.
Vids generates an editable storyboard and lets you choose from several styles. Vids then assembles your first draft using stock video, images, and background music. The tool handles your narration with a selection of presets, including energetic, calm, and relaxed, or you can add your own narration.
Google promises to roll out new features “steadily” as Vids becomes more widely available. The company hasn't set a timeline for a general release, saying only that it will “iterate” on the tool through Workspace Labs until it becomes available in some Google Workspace plans.
