Google is bringing Gemini Omni to Vids, allowing users to create high-quality AI video clips and edit footage with simple text prompts.

Google is adding the Gemini Omni model to Google Vids, its video creation tool first released in 2024, to give users a way to generate high-quality AI video clips and make specific edits simply by describing what they want to change.
This update introduces two major features to Vids. Users can create new video clips using the tech giant’s latest Omni Flash model, and Gemini Omni can also modify existing videos based on text instructions. Google says the new model has improvements over the previous model in areas such as text rendering, physics, and realism. In practice, this means that AI-generated clips will look better, especially if the video contains easy-to-read text or objects that interact with its surroundings.
The ability to edit videos using text prompts allows users to ask Gemini Omni to make specific changes instead of using manual editing tools. For example, users can ask to fix the color grading, restyle the video in a cartoonish style, or remove unnecessary sounds like sirens in the background. So Gemini Omni is useful for more than just generating videos from scratch. It can also be used to make targeted changes to existing content.
Gemini Omni on Google Vids is available on a variety of Google Workspace plans, including Business Starter, Standard, and Plus. Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus. Education Plus; Enterprise Essentials and Enterprise Essentials Plus; and nonprofit organizations. In addition, Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers receive consumer access, as well as access to certain educational add-ons. Additionally, users with the AI Expanded Access add-on license have higher limits on Gemini Omni usage in Vids.
However, there are limitations at startup. Editing non-AI generated videos using Gemini Omni is not available in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Texas, and Illinois. This feature is being rolled out in stages. The company says the feature will be available to users on Rapid Release domains starting today and will take up to 15 days to deploy. Finally, the planned release domain rollout is scheduled to begin on August 5th and will also take up to 15 days.
