Google has enhanced the free tier experience with the release of Gemini 1.5 Flash AI models. As announced in the Gemini release notes, the new models deliver improved quality and latency, along with notable improvements in inference and image understanding. Gemini 1.5 Flash replaces the previous Gemini 1.0 Pro large language models (LLMs) and is now available to all Gemini users on both web and mobile platforms.
First announced at Google I/O in May, Gemini 1.5 Flash is a stripped-down version of the more powerful Gemini 1.5 Pro model. The update follows Meta's recent introduction of new features to Meta AI, with Google claiming the Flash model is more efficient and faster than its predecessor.
Gemini 1.5 Flash: Major Enhancements
Expanded Context Window: With Gemini 1.5 Flash, the company has expanded the context window of Gemini Advanced, increasing the number of chatbot tokens by 4x, from 8,000 to 32,000 tokens. This upgraded context window allows users to have longer conversations, ask Gemini more complex questions, and add more context to the more contextually relevant responses it generates, all for free.
Enhanced performance: The company stressed that the Flash model is designed for faster processing speeds, prioritizing speed and reducing input/output processing costs, making it ideal for powering chatbots that are widely accessible and free to use.
Broader language support: The new models will be available in more than 40 languages across 230 countries and regions, further expanding Gemini's global reach.

Informative response links: In addition to performance, Gemini AI now displays additional information about related topics within the generated responses. The source link that the AI uses to get the information is displayed in a rectangular preview box at the end of the paragraph. Users can see part of the URL headline and the webpage within the box.
Earlier this year, Google enabled direct chat with Gemini using Google Messages on some Android devices. Now, the company is gradually expanding this integration to users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the UK, and Switzerland, and adding support for new languages, including French, Polish, and Spanish. This update covers all 40 languages available in the Gemini 1.5 Flash model. Additionally, Google plans to roll out the Gemini mobile app to more countries.
