Google wants to show the world that it’s committed to AI research and products. Some of the company’s current and upcoming efforts were featured in his two segments on his 60-minute show on CBS News Sunday night.
However, CBS News showed off even more content from that segment in a 60 Minutes Overtime video clip on its YouTube channel. One of these clips showed some unreleased generative AI services. One of them is called “MediaGen” and will be Google’s version of an AI art generator, along with other programs like Midjourney and Microsoft’s Bing Image Creator.
However, Google also recently showed off a text-to-video program. A 60-minute Overime clip showed it being called “Google Phenaki.” This short clip showed the program producing a rather crude animation when asked to create a video showing a winged dog walking in a field. The Google Research department has been working on this Phenaki model for some time, but so far it hasn’t received much media attention. The 60 Minutes Overtime video says the new service won’t make videos with humans for fear of creating a “deep fake” of humans.
The main 60 Minutes segment only briefly mentioned Microsoft’s own Bing Chat. Aside from that few seconds, the entire story revolved around Google’s current AI efforts, which included a visit to the company’s robotics lab. One of his interesting takeaways from the Google Bard-focused talk was that when asked about how to deal with recurring inflation in developed countries, Bard suggested that he read five books to learn more about the subject. was mentioned. The only problem is that all 5 books didn’t exist. In that case, the bard “hallucinated” and made up the title, author, and description of the list.
