Adobe adds generative AI tools to video editing software

Applications of AI

On April 17, Adobe (ADBE.O) announced plans to introduce new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to its video editing software used in the film and television industry.

With this tool, video editors can change the lighting of a shot from noon to sunset, or generate background music by simply entering a few words of text and telling the system to do so. These tools are built on Adobe Firefly, a new system for generating still images and text that the company introduced last month.

Adobe’s interest in generative AI, spurred by applications from OpenAI and Stability AI, backed by Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O), that enable users to create novel images with just a few words of description riding the wave of However, after Getty Images sued Stability AI, it claimed that the startup misused Getty’s copyrighted images to train AI systems and used the output of such AI systems for commercial work. The legal question of whether it can be clouded.

Adobe, one of the largest suppliers of software for visual and video artists, promises its customers that the output from its Firefly system can be used commercially on a secure legal basis.

With Adobe’s new video tools, users can have AI systems read their scripts, automatically generate storyboards for their finished work, and even recommend partial shots for a rough cut of the story. For the advertising industry, this system includes the ability to shoot footage and generate different background music and scenery for advertising in different countries.

“With one button, you can generate 1,000 localized versions of the same video,” Ivo Manolov, Adobe’s vice president of digital and video audio enterprise offerings, told Reuters in an interview.

Adobe is currently testing the system and plans to release a video tool later this year.
