Google has begun rolling out new AI-powered creative features on its Google TV platform. Google Gemini and Google’s Nano Banana and Veo models allow users to edit images and create videos using only voice prompts.

“We are unlocking the potential of television as a shared creative canvas,” Google said today. From the new Gemini tab, which will roll out first to Gemini-enabled TCL Google TV models in the US, users can select Create and use prompts to remix photos from their Google Photos library, add motion to existing images, or create AI-generated videos from scratch. However, video generation requires a premium Google AI subscription, which starts at $7.99 per month.

The Google Photos experience on Google TV also includes search, powered by Gemini, to show you relevant photos based on your questions. With Google Photos Remix, Google TV users can also give their photos new artistic styles like watercolors and oil paintings. Google Photo Search and Remix, as well as AI-powered creation features, will initially roll out to Gemini-enabled Google TV devices in the US.

On Google TV devices with at least 2GB of RAM, the new Dynamic Slideshow feature allows users to create their own screensavers that use the Google Photos library. This new experience is available from Google TV’s screensaver settings and is available worldwide.

Starting this summer, Google also plans to integrate vertical YouTube Shorts videos onto the Google TV home screen. This is done by adding a new “Short Videos for You” row. But now that YouTube allows mobile users to completely hide Shorts videos, you’ll probably want a similar option on Google TV.
