The new AI tutor will help users practice Spanish, French and English, while the live translation feature supports over 70 languages including Hindi, Tamil and Korean, making conversations between languages more smooth.
Google Translate has undergone a major AI upgrade, transforming its application into a language learning tutor and adding real-time conversation translations. Translate app's new AI-powered language learning tool will make the platform compete directly with popular platforms like Duolingo. New features allow users to tap the practice button to start a lesson and choose basic, intermediate or advanced skills level selection.
The app also asks users about their learning goals, such as travel, work, or personal interests. Based on this input, AI curates personalized programs that include listening and speaking exercises.
For now, AI Tutors are available to Android and iOS beta testers. English speakers can practice Spanish and French, while Spanish, French and Portuguese speakers can practice English.
Live translation in over 70 languages now
Alongside the AI Tutors, Google has introduced more live translation into its translation app. This feature allows two people to speak in different languages, allowing instant audio and text transcription and real-time conversations.
Unlike the live translation of the Pixel 10, Google Translate focuses on clarity and natural flow, rather than recreating user tones and audio. The app also uses noise isolation technology to facilitate conversations in busy places such as airports and markets.
Live translation currently supports over 70 languages, including Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, Tamil, Korean and French, and is available to users in the US, Indian and Mexican countries.
A step towards smarter AI-driven communication
With AI built into Google Translate, the app has evolved from a translation tool to a language learning and real-time communication platform. These features make Google Translate a powerful alternative to traditional learning apps, making conversations between languages more seamless.
