Google Research hires AI scientist from Isomorphic Labs

Google Research has added Benedek Rozemberczki to its OMEGA algorithm research team, marking a move from Isomorphic Labs, an Alphabet-backed AI drug discovery company.

This shift highlights the ongoing movement of AI researchers across Alphabet’s research groups as research in machine learning, algorithms, and scientific computing accelerates.

Rozemberczki announced the move on LinkedIn, writing that he was starting “a new chapter with the OMEGA Algorithms Research team at Google Research” after more than three years at Isomorphic Labs.

During that time, he worked on machine learning applied to biology and led work on bioactivity research within the company’s AI-driven drug discovery program.

From digital biology to Google Research

Reflecting on his time at Isomorphic Labs, Rozemberczki writes, “Building Isomorphic Labs from the ground up and leading the bioactivity team was the opportunity of a lifetime.”

He thanked his colleagues for supporting his work there, adding, “A special thank you to James Kirkpatrick, Michael S., Wojciech Marian Czarnecki, and Max Jaderberg for being great mentors. I have learned a lot from you all about leadership and good research, and I will carry those lessons into my new role at Google Research.”

Operating under Alphabet, Isomorphic Labs focuses on applying artificial intelligence to the drug discovery process. The company aims to use AI models and computational biology techniques to accelerate the identification and development of new drugs.

Join the OMEGA Algorithm Research Team

At Google Research, we will collaborate with the OMEGA Algorithms Research group, which focuses on large-scale machine learning, algorithms, and graph-based AI techniques.

He said joining the group was an important step in his career as a researcher. “I am truly honored to join such a talented team at Google,” he wrote.

Rozemberczki added that he had followed the work of several researchers in the group for years, writing: “I have been following the work of Jonathan Halcrow, Vahab Mirrokni, Bryan Perozzi, Alessandro Epasto, Anton Tsitsulin, and Michael Galkin for many years, and I am humbled to have the opportunity to collaborate with these graph machine learning pioneers.”

“I can’t wait to see what we can build together,” he concluded.

Rosenbertski joined Isomorphic Labs in 2022, where he worked for more than three and a half years, moving through research roles before leading the bioactivity team.

Prior to that, he worked as a senior machine learning engineer at AstraZeneca and previously held positions at Google and GE Digital.

His move reflects a broader trend in the AI ​​field, where researchers frequently move between research labs, industry teams and applied AI companies as machine learning capabilities continue to expand across fields such as medicine, science and technology.
