Google Photos lets you animate your camera roll for free in VEO 3

AI Video & Visuals

Google has added VEO 3 software functionality to Google Photos' video generation capabilities. US-based users can turn a static image into a 4-second video by clicking “Subtle Moves” or, more adventurously, clicking the “I Feel Lucky” option on the Google Photos Create tab. According to Google spokesman Michael Marconi, you can dance and shower with confetti in the subjects in photography.

VEO 3 will replace VEO 2 in the photo, which has been unfolding since July. Upgrading to video generation software will improve the resolution and fidelity of clips made from static images, Marconi said.

This is the latest release of Google's push to provide video generation software to users. At the May I/O event, Google launched the AI video generation model Veo 3 along with the Text-to-Video software flow. In August, users were able to access a limited version of the AI-powered Video Editor Vids. This includes AI-generated avatars that can deliver messages on your behalf.

According to Gemini Josh Woodward's Google vice president at I/O events, the most important feature of the VEO 3 was its “incredibly realistic” sound generation. At the time, VEO 3 was available under the “AI Ultra” plan, which costs $250 a month. Now, free photography users can bring VEO 3-powered video generation (rather than sound) to a limited, unspecified number of photos every day. Ultra and professional subscribers have access to more generations.

The AI tools are available in the Photo Creation tab. In addition to adding motion to still images, users can also turn the photo back into 3D animations and turn it into video. The highlight feature creates a video montage of photos based on keywords entered in the gallery.
