Google Photos Expand AI-powered Image-to-Video Generation and Remix Functions

AI Video & Visuals

Google Photos is getting two new AI (AI) features that allow users to convert images in gallery in a variety of ways. On Wednesday, Mountain View-based Tech Giant announced an AI-powered image-to-video feature that allows users to convert gallery photos to video. This feature is driven by the company's VEO 2 AI model. Additionally, Google Photos also offers a new remix feature that allows users to rethink images in a variety of styles.

Google Photos Gets Major AI Upgrades

In a blog post, Tech Giant detailed two new features that will be featured in Google Photos. Currently, these features are available in the US only on both Android and iOS devices. Apart from these, the Photo Gallery app also offers a new creation tab where all AI features are listed for easier access.

The most notable new feature being added is photos dubbed into photos. Equipped with VEO 2, this feature can convert any image into a 6-second video. To use it, users must select one image from the gallery and select a feature from the options menu. After that, they need to choose between “subtle moves” and “I feel lucky.” The former adds only minor movements, while the latter adds random movements to the video.

Google said the feature will allow users to realize valuable memories. This feature has the potential for abuse, but the range of deepfakes is significantly less as users cannot decide what the video generated will look like with the addition of prompts. This feature is currently being deployed to US Photography app users.

The second feature, called Remix, is similar to Apple Intelligence's Image Playground. Users can select images and select preset styles such as anime, comics, sketches, 3D animations, and convert images with that style. Google said the feature will come to US-based Android and iOS users in the coming weeks.

Apart from this, Google Photos also gets a new create tab. It is located at the bottom between collections and search options. The tabs contain all the existing and new features that Tech Giant adds to your app. For now, users can highlight videos, remixes, collages, videos, and other features in this tab.
