Google photos are Rollout A powerful new “key moment” feature that helps you find and share the most persuasive parts of your video using AI. Please be honest. Most of our videos contain a lot of “fillers” and are less interesting than the possibilities. Apart from very special occasions, videos longer than a few seconds are much less likely to be re-watched or shared. Therefore, if you want to record long videos, the important moments can save you a lot of time and effort.
When you watch a video in Google Photos, the Key Moments feature automatically highlights the most attractive sections in your timeline. You can then jump straight to these moments and save as individual clips with a single tap.
These key moments are featured in interactive “chips” (small clickable labels). This moment can be saved as a separate clip or, if for some reason, you don't like it, remove the marker from the timeline.
This feature shows how Google Photos leverages AI to perform boring everyday tasks. According to Google, the feature of key moments identifies joy, nostalgic, or visually rich moments within a video for at least 10 seconds. Although the length of individual key moments is not specified, the Google example shows a segment of about 5 seconds.
Google Photo Key Moments: iOS users must wait
The key moment is expected to unfold in September this year, with some Android users already gaining access. Apple users will need to wait a little longer, but Google has confirmed that iOS support will soon be coming.
Automatically highlighting special moments in longer videos is not a new idea. Rival applications such as GoPro Quickoffering similar features, many people may have forgotten that they are already unlucky Google Clips Smart cameras are products that are solely intended to automatically find and record your most interesting moments.
However, key moments stand out as truly useful features that virtually do not require any effort or expertise from the user. It may seem like a simple addition, but the idea that a smartphone app can detect and isolate moments of nostalgia in video would have been impossible just a few years ago.
