New Delhi: Tech Giant Google said Monday it launched the Google News Initiative (GNI) AI Skills Academy.
According to the company, the new initiative aims to equip India's newsrooms with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive in an AI-powered future.
“We are pleased to continue our commitment to bringing best in class technology by working with news organizations across India and to announce the launch of Google News Initiative AI Skills Academy in collaboration with New Media's Institute of Indomas Communications (IIMC),” Tech Giant said in a statement.
This is a 10-week hybrid training series designed to provide newsrooms and media educators with basic AI understanding and practical skills.
Participants will learn to streamline workflows, increase efficiency, and free valuable time for deeper and creative research and in-depth, diverse storytelling using Google's AI tools such as Notebook Rum, Gemini, AI Studios, and Pinpoint.
Launched by Google in an academic partnership with IIMC and with training support from Indian way of life, the hybrid program will enable participants to apply AI tools to various use cases involved.
The program offers weekly deep diving, hands-on exercises, dedicated mentoring, and problem-solving sessions. The program is curated to provide participants with the support of leveraging AI to perform newsroom tasks more efficiently.
“We are also proud to support IIMC, who trains media educators and students across campuses in six cities in India,” Google said.
This collaboration is a key step in empowering media experts and media educators with essential AI skills.
“As AI transforms journalism, this initiative will help them move forward. We intend to promote responsible innovation and increase the creativity of storytelling. IIMC is pleased to be part of this initiative that will help train students across six campuses.”
