Google adds new AI video creator to Workspace Labs
Google has introduced a new AI-powered video creation service as part of its Workspace Labs program, where users can try out new AI features.
The cloud giant said Google Vids for the workplace will help users create, create, produce, edit, collaborate and share videos.
“Vids is an AI-powered video-creation app designed for work and deeply integrated with the Workspace suite you use every day,” Google said in a July 15 email to members of Workspace Labs, an invitation-only program that allows users to try out new AI-powered features across a range of products, from Google Docs to Gmail.
“Build your story with high-quality templates or use Gemini by Vids to speed up your first draft,” the email said. “Unleash your creativity with our royalty-free stock content library and get your message across with Vids Recording Studio, all without leaving Workspace.” Formerly known as G Suite, Workspace is the company's suite of cloud-based productivity and collaboration tools.
The new product, which was teased in April, marks OpenAI's (ChatGPT's creators) entry into the hottest area of AI development, following the company's Sora text-to-video generator, as well as products from DeepBrain AI, Invideo AI, and Descript.
The help center explains that the tool comes with a “Help me create” feature that guides new users through the creation of their first draft video with prompts created by Google's Gemini AI system. The prompts help Gemini do the following:
-
Generate:
- Editable outline storyboard.
- Recommended scenes with suggested text.
- Script narration for videos and voiceovers.
-
select:
- Recommended stock videos or images that you can save or exchange for your media.
- Recommended incidental stock music, which can be saved to or exchanged with your media.
Google cautions that advanced technology like “help me create” is rolled out in stages, so it might not be available to everyone at the same time.
Full features include:
In addition to participating in the Workspace Labs program, users should also have access to Gemini Alpha.
Browser support includes Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge (Windows only).
