Ghana has taken a major step towards promoting AI adoption, and announced new measures to promote digital innovation and establish itself as a regional leader in emerging technologies.
The announcement was held at ACRA's Deputy Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation at ACRA at the AI 2025 Africa Open. Mohammed Adams Skupal (MP) gave a keynote address on behalf of the Minister of Sector. Samuel Narty George (MP).
Talking to participants across Africa, the Deputy Minister emphasized that the event was more than just a robotics race. He described it as a platform for imagination, teamwork and preparation for the next generation of African innovators. African youth are projected to make up 42% of the world's youth population by 2030, and he emphasized the importance of shaping the continent's future with digital skills for young people.

He also made it clear that an emerging technology bill is being prepared for Congress, which aims to set ethical standards for the use of AI, robotics and blockchain technology.
The Deputy Minister pointed to ongoing initiatives that include a Million Coder Program and a project within Girls. It already trains thousands of young people with coding, robotics and AI. Earlier this year, Ghana also hosted its first AI boot camp for Cabinet Ministers, providing government leaders with knowledge of AI opportunities and risks.
Going forward, Sukparu has issued an order from the president calling for all government agencies to adopt AI tools from 2026 to improve efficiency and service delivery.
He praised the maker Ghana, praised AI and its partners for creating an inclusive platform, highlighting that children's participation demonstrated the importance of fostering innovation from an early age.
This year's competition, the theme “Chasing the Stars,” was presented as an invitation for young Africans to dream of massive big and harness technology to address the big challenges. Ghana's push at the event reaffirmed its commitment to becoming a continental hub for digital transformation.
