Open AI launched ChatGPT in 2022, causing artificial intelligence to explode in everyday life. Over the past few years, AI products have appeared everywhere from Canva to AI overviews on Google search results. This fundamentally changes the way we work, play, and search online. Recently I've been using ChatGpt to answer questions instead of Google.
AI chatbots like ChatGpt continue to transform the way they consume, create and communicate online. AI innovation is progressing rapidly, but it is important to understand the fundamentals of how ChatGPT works to navigate the ecosystem of tools.
(Disclosure: CNET's parent company Ziff Davis filed a lawsuit against Openai in April, claiming it infringed Ziff Davis's copyright in training and operating AI systems.)
With that in mind, here is your ChatGPT 101 class.
What does ChatGpt actually do?
ChatGpt can answer questions, summarise text, create new content, and translate languages. Depending on the version you are using, you can either browse the internet or generate information up to the date of your last training model.
It's not magic, it's mathematics. The results are based on predictions and past information from large-scale language models, making them prone to hallucinations, errors and biases.
Maintain a balanced approach when using tools like chatgpt. AI, like most cutting edge technology, isn't everything good or bad. Don't be too arbitrary on either side.
I tried using ChatGpt for all job-related tasks, such as creating resumes and cover letters, finding out the job of dreams, negotiating a raise, saving time or productive, finding the best deals and coupons on online shopping, and creating recipes from leftovers.
It will be set up with chatgpt
Just like with Google's homepage, ChatGpt can be used as a search engine. Visit chatgpt.com or download the ChatGPT app on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Open the app or website and enter a question or prompt. You can use the audio function, attach files, and view trending topics below search.
For more advanced and personalized features, we recommend creating an account and logging in. ChatGpt lets you know more about you through your search history and customize your ChatGPT responses.
To create an account, click sign up The button in the top right corner. Choose from free or premium membership ($20 per month). In most cases, the free version is fine.
We recommend using the app to quickly search your personal search. For work, the desktop version is probably easier. Also, if you are using audio buttons instead of typing the prompt, the mobile app is best.
ChatGpt 101: Get used to AI tools
There is no “correct” way to use ChatGpt. The only wrong way to use it is to do only Use ChatGpt and outsource critical thinking. Please use chatgpt and Google, and Always check everything they say to you. Click on the source of the information drawn by Google and ChatGpt.
You cannot simply trust the information provided by AI. It could be hallucination or draw false conclusions from suspicious source information.
It also helps to come to AI tools with your intentions in mind. For example, you can use ChatGpt as a thinking partner or research aid. Instead of replacing all research, give them a “work” and incorporate it into the process.

What you can ask chatgpt
You can ask ChatGpt about anything. Please avoid providing personal or confidential information such as credit card numbers, SSNs, or information that you personally identify in the event of a data breach.
Whatever you want ChatGpt, the better the more you give context. You only take out what you put in so focus on providing as much information as possible at your first prompt.
The prompt depends on whether you are asking the question, summarizing the text, brainstorming, getting “advice”, analyzing images, procuring code, or generating content.
If you're not sure where to start, here are some of the things I've asked for ChatGpt to help me. Let's compare my two search intents.
Advice-related requests
I'm about to get pregnant and want to know the ideal diet that suits my situation.
Example prompt: “I'm preparing a 36-year-old woman to start IVF. I don't have any fertility issues, but my AMH is at the bottom edge. I'll provide the suggested meal to follow the collection and movement of the eggs.”
It gives you a lot of information. Most of it won't personalize you, so think of each follow-up prompt as a conversation that brings you closer to customized advice. You can see this exact example of advice related prompts and all the follow-up questions I had to ask to drill down to get useful information here.
Remember: Always double check with your doctor if you are looking for health and wellness information.
Data-related requests
Say you are a small business owner and want to reduce the overhead. Then enter your cost spreadsheet into ChatGpt for advice.
You can click Analyze the data A button and prompt are generated. Choose the most appropriate one or enter it after “Help me…”
Example prompt: “Please help me save my expenses. My expenses list from last year is attached.”
Again, I'll double check all the numbers that the AI tool comes back.
chatgpt browsing
If you want to play before asking specific questions before using the tool, you can use the auto-generated prompts that appear in CHATGPT.
For example, if you click Please be surprisedyou can explore prompts like this:
I clicked on one of the suggested prompts, and this is the answer I got:
If you click Make a planyou can explore prompts such as “plan to get promotions”, “plan to buy a new car”, “plan to plan for this week's meal plan”, and “plan for a weekend in New York”.
For example, for meal plan suggestions, quickly fill in the ingredients into the fridge in ChatGpt and provide current diet focus will generate meal plans for the week. You can make it as habit as you would upload a photo of what you have in the fridge, ask for dinner suggestions, or ask ChatGpt for good restaurant options in New York.
This example of meal planning actually shows how ChatGpt and other AI tools are handy search partners with “choose your own adventure” to do whatever you want with them.
Don't forget to maintain a balanced view of these tools. And always double-check that advice.
