The German government is actively promoting new legislative and judicial measures to combat harmful content generated by AI, particularly targeting deepfakes and non-consensual image manipulation that violates individual rights.
The study also revealed how chatbot image generation was used to create non-consensual images of minimally dressed women and children.
Following the recent incident, Germany's media minister called on the European Commission earlier this week to take legal action against X, calling it the “industrialization of sexual harassment.”
According to Reuters, In response to questions raised about the disagreement at a regularly held government press conference, Justice Ministry spokeswoman Anna Lena Beckfeld said Germany was preparing to take action on the issue in domestic courts.
In this regard, she stated that “it is unacceptable that large-scale operations are used for the systematic violation of individual rights.”
“We also want to be able to use criminal law more effectively to combat this,” she added.
She revealed that the ministry is working to strengthen the regulation of deepfakes and plans to enact legislation to ban technology-facilitated violence to support victims. The ministry plans to present concrete legislative proposals in the coming months.
“Those who use Grok to create illegal content will suffer the same consequences as those who upload illegal content,” Musk said this week.
Nevertheless, Germany's proactive practical measures will usher in a new era in the fight against unregulated deepfakes, where traceability and transparency will become the new norm.
