– Sprinklr stock rose on the back of the first quarter earnings report, and sales and earnings were strong. The New York-based software company was founded in his 2009 and will go public via IPO in 2021. He currently powers his experience management software for large corporate customers such as Microsoft, L’Oreal, Cisco and Samsung.
Joining us this time is Founder and CEO Ragy Thomas. Brad Smith of Yahoo Finance will also join the conversation. Both are very welcome. There, Razzie showed me around the district at the time. And especially when you look at how much of this is coming from increased subscription revenue.
Lazy Thomas: Thank you very much. Brad, nice to see you again. This quarter has been great. Excellent in almost every metric. Reported revenue of $173.4 million. That’s a 20% year-over-year growth. Subscription revenue also increased, with growth even higher at 24% for him. And I think the biggest surprise on the street was the fact that non-GAAP operating income he posted was $11 million.
Brad Smith: I think Street was paying close attention to what, too, and it’s great to see you really paying attention to this guidance here, Razzie. So what are you seeing in the relationship, and what you’re hearing from some customers right now is that you’re hitting the streets again and there’s a strong demand that’s really going to benefit Sprinklr. Does it give you the confidence to say something?
Lazy Thomas: Well, it was fun to connect with a few customers. We have been able to reach out and talk over the last 12 months. What we consistently hear from every customer in every industry we serve. Now keep in mind that these are some of the largest companies in the world. What we’re hearing is, what’s going on in front of this technology, customer-facing technology?
When we think of large global companies such as Microsoft, Samsung, and Dell, we are talking about large companies with multiple business units. In some cases, there are 40, 50, 60 business units and are themselves large enterprises.
Each business unit may operate in 50 or even 100 markets. And in each market, we do customer service, marketing, advertising, voice of the customer research, insights and sales. UK marketing uses 5-15 channels.
And now think about the brand’s consumers and customers. It’s kind of interesting. It is impossible for a large company to maintain a brand and create a consistent brand-his message across all these channels, all functions, all markets, all business lines.
And in the front office, we packed almost every department with an average of 50-75 points of solution. It’s unsustainable because we don’t talk to each other. Customers are not visible across these systems.
So here’s an example of a major credit card company that upgraded their contact center with Sprinklr. Before Sprinklr, email customer service agents couldn’t use any other channel to email agents. As a result, when I requested a credit limit increase by e-mail, I had to wait for the customer to ask a question and get a reply. When you press the phone button, can you provide proof of your income? A lawsuit that would have taken a week is now resolved in 20 minutes.
Brad Smith: In terms of productivity, this seems like a big benefit for some companies. And on the subject of productivity, what we’ve heard and tracked throughout this earnings season are mentions of artificial intelligence and generative AI. I see you smiling when you think of your business, and I see you smiling at this business.
But at the end of the day, investors want to know, too. got it. As a company with a Founding CEO like Ragy Thomas, what are your thoughts on generative AI using some of his existing Sprinklr frameworks? And where could it potentially benefit some customers looking for increased productivity?
Brad, that’s a great question. You may remember that in the IPO prospectus, there were nearly seven pages describing our artificial intelligence. First of all, AI is something we’ve been talking about all along, and our entire platform has been built over the last five years. And that’s Sprinklr’s key differentiator.
Let me help you understand how we see AI and what’s happening right now. Yes, there is a lot of talk about generative AI right now. Many companies are entering by introducing product SKUs. And most of them are doing very simple things. A developer or small team calling an open API and returning a result looks cool.
Please let me know what is wrong. If you don’t have control over the dataset your AI is trained on. If you are training an AI model on an unbound dataset, the results will be unpredictable. In the corporate world, there are several countries that have implemented Sprinklr.
The Qatari government cannot afford unpredictable outcomes at its front offices for Coca-Cola, Microsoft, McDonald’s, JPMorgan Chase and Citibank. It should be brand based. Must be compliant.
So if Bard makes a mistake, or if ChatGPT makes a mistake, there is an unacceptable degree of severity. It’s fun. It’s a joke. But brands can’t afford to do that.
Over the last 5 years we have developed over 2000 models. In fact, hundreds of models have been customized for our customers. And these models are trained on nearly all publicly available data in over 100 languages. And we know he makes over 10 billion predictions a day.
Every part of Sprinklr is built on AI. And what generative AI can do now is take in the cryptic messages that we do in terms of AI-driven generative — let me give you an example. Contact centers had something called Smart Response, which allowed agents to suggest responses. And before the slightly mysterious generative AI. We parsed all past cases and said, “Please suggest this option as a way to fit.”
With generative AI, you can give the entire script. Therefore, adoption of that feature by generative AI has increased by 300%. But there are hundreds and thousands of AI capabilities. And generative AI gives us the wings of AI capabilities.
– Ragy in the sense of growth story from here. I understand that you have also opened a new research and development base in India. But on the other hand, regulators are seriously considering how they can put guardrails around his AI. How do you focus on the growth story while paying attention to what the regulators are planning?
Lazy Thomas: We are in the very, very early stages of the AI revolution. It will be a quantum leap. I’m a fan of responsible AI. I think we’ve seen this in cryptocurrencies as well as social.
We should come up with a framework very early on, and not wait for revolutionary technologies like AI to grow out of control, so people just get excited and many companies will go out of business. A lot of people lose money. Therefore, I am a fan of responsible AI. I support common-sense regulations that allow companies like Sprinklr, Google, Facebook, and others working on AI to put themselves out into the world responsibly.
Brad Smith: Ruggie, just while you’re there. You just talked about advertising. And he’s usually one of the first marketing spends spent on advertising during economic downturns. We’re going to meet with Ken Lyon and talk to various Chief Marketing Officers, possibly some of the clients you work with.
And even as we think about the impending economic recession that has been so widely telegraphed, can advertising be strong enough to get some of these companies through the other side, or is demand strong enough to get them through? I am wondering if it is possible to generate Economic downturn? And you only have about 30 seconds.
Lazy Thomas: That’s exactly right. Advertising and marketing spending is receding. People are stepping back to see how the economy cools down before spending money again. The good news is that we’re putting about 80% of our energy into our contact center products, and we’re kind of taking off.
And it’s our claim that by integrating customer service, marketing, and sales, we can turn those agents into salespeople and actually turn the contact center into a revenue center.
– It’s really nice to have you on board and solve all this for us. Ragy Thomas, founder and CEO of Sprinklr, and his Brad Smith at the company. Thank you both.
