G7 Ministers Discussing AI Risks and Challenges

AI News

Ministers from the G7 countries will meet in Japan this weekend to discuss how best to promote artificial intelligence. This is due to the growing popularity of programs like ChatGPT, fueling debate over the free exchange of data across borders.

G7 ministers on digitization and technology will meet in Takasaki, north of Tokyo, from Saturday.

A draft of the joint statement obtained by NHK says the rapid advances in artificial intelligence are having a major impact on society. It warns that generative AI can produce text and images that contain incorrect information.

The document states that the challenges and implications of AI need to be studied by international groups such as the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

The minister added that it aims to create guidelines for the proper use of AI in a way that it can be trusted.

The statement notes that different countries have different rules, presenting hurdles for companies to use data across borders. Ministers say they are trying to work out a framework to support the creation of international rules.

The document says the ministers will continue to support Ukraine with digital infrastructure.

It condemns Russian aggression and calls for an immediate withdrawal.
