As new artificial intelligence applications such as ChatGPT take the world by storm, digital and technology ministers from G7 countries on Sunday called for accelerating discussions on the responsible use and governance of new technologies.

Ministers also agreed to further facilitate smooth and reliable cross-border data flows as more countries seek to tighten regulations on data flows.

How to apply rules to the use of generative AI tools is becoming a pressing issue for governments around the world after OpenAI’s ChatGPT went live last November.
