Archer Aviation is considering creating an AI flight manual for Air Taxis, the CEO told Business Insider.
“We are considering using AI and LLMS. [large language models] To simplify things,” Adam Goldstein said in an interview at the Paris Air Show this week.
“So you can see anything from flight manuals (which can be very complicated, you can ask and ask questions) to internal tools that help you move faster.
“If you're in some kind of scenario and have a big flight manual and you need to understand what to do right away, you don't want to worry about multiple 100-page books,” he added. “I want to ask a simple question, get the answer and fix the problem.”
The pilot has a manual called Quick-Reference Handbooks that outlines procedures for emergencies or other situations where the aircraft notifies you of a warning message. Handbooks are usually found on digital devices that are easy to search.
AI can make searches faster, but larger models such as ChatGpt have faced criticism for the occasional generation of false information known as hallucinations.
Silicon Valley-based Archer has partnered with Palantir to work with AI and says it will develop software to improve a variety of systems, including air traffic control, motor control and route planning.
“There are big, complex systems that require almost 100% reliability, if not 100% reliability, so we partnered with Palantir,” Goldstein told BI.
He said he uses ChatGpt every day. “I think it's a great way to do research and see the world.
Archer is one of the best players in Advanced Air Mobility and is considered the next generation of aircraft.
The midnight aircraft is electricity, and can take off vertically and land – either evtol for short, or “flying taxis.”
The goal is to transform the city's commute. For example, Archer says it takes nine minutes to travel between Newar Liberty International Airport and downtown Manhattan instead of a nearly one-hour journey by car or public transport.
United Airlines has placed orders worth up to $1.5 billion, and last month Archer announced that he was selected as the official air taxi partner for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Also in Paris on Tuesday, Transport Secretary Sean Duffy announced an alliance that streamlines EVTOL certification, including the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Archer is scheduled to deploy his first midnight aircraft in the United Arab Emirates later this year.
