Former Oyo State First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, has denied any involvement in a video circulating on social media in which she was seen making inflammatory statements about the 2027 governorship election.
In a statement released by her office on Saturday, Dr Ajimobi referred to a video in which she allegedly declared a political showdown against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 polls, insisting that the video was not recorded by her and does not reflect her views.
The statement, titled “Rebuttal to Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi’s Fraudulent AI-Generated Video,” said the video currently circulating online is deceptive and falsely depicts her statements regarding the 2027 gubernatorial election.
The statement said the video was subjected to digital forensic testing and concluded using artificial intelligence that it was fabricated. Her office says the video is a deepfake created through generative AI tools that manipulate lip movements and voice patterns to imitate her.
“Digital forensic examination has confirmed that this video is a synthetic hoax created using Generated Al. The footage is a ‘deepfake’ that uses artificial intelligence to manipulate lip movements and voice to deliver a script never spoken by Dr. Ajimobi.”
The statement further described the video as an example of the weaponization of artificial intelligence in politics and warned that such content could be deployed to influence the 2027 political cycle.
“This video is a clear example of the ‘synthetic deception’ that experts warn will be used to influence the 2027 political cycle. Using Al to impersonate a public figure and fabricate controversial statements sets a dangerous precedent that undermines the health of democratic discourse.”
Dr Ajimobi’s office called on the public, media and security agencies to ignore the video and check the authenticity of politically sensitive content before sharing.
“We urge the public, the press and security agencies to treat this content as malicious misinformation. In an era of increasingly sophisticated digital manipulation, it is critical to verify the origin and authenticity of such inflammatory content before distribution,” the statement added.
The clarification came after a widely circulated video depicting Dr Ajimobi saying: “In 2027 there will be war, there will be war, there will be war, PDP has to go, whatever they want to do, whatever they want to try, whatever their nature is, all power belongs to God but we beseech God and we are going to fight them. Whatever we have at the state level, we’ve got the money, they’ve got the money at the state level, we’ve got the money at the federal level, we’ve got all the support we need, we’re not going to be intimidated, so let them get ready, we’re ready for them. ”
The statement concluded by affirming her commitment to democratic principles and hinting at possible legal action against those responsible for creating and distributing the video.
“Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi remains committed to the principles of truth and the democratic process. We reserve all legal rights to seek redress against the creators and intentional distributors of this fraudulent media.”
The statement comes after the video was widely shared on social media, sparking political debate in the run-up to the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
