The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur is set to begin recruiting admissions for the second cycle of its online graduate program, expanding its portfolio to include nine Senate-approved courses across the fields of emerging technology and sustainability.
Programs offered through the institute’s Office of Outreach Activities are designed for working professionals as well as recent graduates who seek flexible study options while continuing their professional activities. The second cycle of classes is scheduled to begin in September 2026.
The second admission cycle includes seven M.Tech (online) programs: Wireless Networks and Machine Learning, RF Engineering, Microelectronics and VLSI, Construction Engineering and Project Management, Sustainable Energy Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Smart Grids.
Additionally, the institute offers a Master’s degree (online) program in Economics and Data Analytics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Cybersecurity (online).
While M.Tech and M.Sc programs can be completed in two to four years, graduate diploma programs are one to two years long, allowing learners to pursue advanced education at a flexible pace.
Eligibility and admission process
This program is aimed at both working adults and recent graduates. Applicants must have a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 5.5 or 55 percent in the qualifying degree.
Admissions are determined based on scores on valid national-level examinations such as the Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) and the Joint Master’s Admission Test (JAM), subject to department-specific criteria. Alternatively, candidates can apply through the institute’s online entrance test.
Applicants with five or more years of relevant professional experience may be exempt from the online entrance test requirement. Candidates nominated or sponsored by a government or defense organization may also qualify for this exemption.
Faculty may specify additional requirements, such as relevant academic background, work experience, and interviews.
Online graduate programs are designed to support learners seeking advanced technical education without relocating or leaving their jobs. This course is structured to address emerging industry demands across the fields of technology, infrastructure, and sustainability.
Applications are expected to open soon and candidates can access program details, eligibility criteria and admission schedule through the institute’s official online portal.
