Fact check: Video of an ancient Egyptian mummified child accidentally linked to AI-171 crash

The Air India Dreamliner 787 crashed tragically in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, claiming 241 lives. Among the victims were a couple traveling with three children. Against the background, the video showing the child's burnt ruins has become a virus on social media, claiming it is one of the boys on an unfortunate flight.

Searching by keyword on a child's burnt, burnt body in an airplane crash nm The team could not find reliable media coverage to support the claim.

I also found a watermark expression called “nofret egypt” in the lower right corner of the viral video. We scanned Instagram and tracked Egyptian accounts that had the same video posted on March 11, 2025. The caption reads: “Ancient Egyptian Child Mummy – Roman Era. This confirms that this video depicts a mummified child in ancient Egypt. It is Ahmedabad, not a burnt ruin of a baby from a crash fall in the Air India Dreamliner.

Additionally, the same video with similar context was also found on Facebook.
