Explore new Apple Intelligence AI features

AI For Business

The company made waves with the announcement of Apple Intelligence AI during its annual WWDC keynote on Monday, with CEO Tim Cook calling it “a new personal intelligence system that makes our most personal products even more useful and enjoyable.”

Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. On your phone, for example, you can organize your notifications by priority to make sure you don't miss anything important. New writing tools available through Apple Intelligence can also help you rewrite, proofread, and summarize text in apps like Mail, Notes, and Safari.

Apple Intelligence also helps with image generation, another hot area in the AI race, by creating personalized images to add to your conversations in one of three styles: sketch, illustration, or animation.

One example shown in the demo shows Photos learning to recognise people in photos over time – for example, it could create an image of a friend blowing out candles and send it to you when celebrating a birthday.

This works in apps like Messages, Notes, Freeform, Keynote, Pages, and more.

Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, said Apple Intelligence would also be useful for tasks that require knowledge of a user's “personal context.”

“Apple Intelligence is based on your identity and context, and it analyzes the most relevant data from across apps and on-screen content, like the email you're viewing or calendar events.”

For example, Federighi imagined she was worried that a meeting would be rescheduled and she wouldn't be able to get to her daughter's play on time.

“Apple Intelligence can predict who my daughter is, details about the play I sent it to her a few days ago, the time and location of our meeting, and even the traffic conditions between my office and the theater,” he said during the demo.

Kelsey Peterson, Apple's director of machine learning and AI, said Apple Intelligence will enable new capabilities for Siri.

This makes speaking to Siri more conversational: if you stumble or accidentally slip up, Siri will understand what you mean before you can correct it.

Siri also maintains the context of your conversation, so you can continue the conversation without having to explain everything to Siri again every time you ask a question or give a command.

If you don't want to talk to Siri, you can double-tap the bottom of the screen and type your question or command there.

Additionally, you can ask Siri about any iPhone setting or feature, even if you don't know the specific name, and Siri will show you the answer or related results in the iPhone User Guide.

Apple Intelligence also gives Siri screen recognition, allowing it to understand and respond to what's on your screen.

For example, if a friend texts you their new address, you can tell Siri in the Messages app to “add this address to my friend's contact card” and Siri will grab the address and friend's name from the message on your screen and perform the task.

In the demo, Siri was able to handle a request like, “Show me pictures of Stacey in her pink coat in New York” and even display the photo.
