Applications of AI

PARIS: The Riyadh-based International Center for Research Ethics in Artificial Intelligence called for the responsible and inclusive use of AI at the World Science Congress held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris this week.

ICAIRE participated in the 1st World Congress of the International Decade of Science for Sustainable Development, a hybrid event held from July 15th to 17th.

The conference brought together ministers, scientists, policy makers and industry leaders from around the world.

Majid Al-Shehri, on behalf of ICAIRE, highlighted the pivotal role the Center has played in translating global AI priorities into actionable programs to ensure comprehensive use of AI technologies.

In her speech, Al-Shehri also highlighted international initiatives led by ICAIRE, such as the Elevate Program, a global initiative to empower women in AI, developed in partnership with Microsoft and supported by the Saudi Data and AI Authority and the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad.

Mr. Al-Shehri also outlined the Center’s efforts to support the implementation of UNESCO’s AI Readiness Assessment Methodology.

He emphasized the importance of achieving geographically equitable access to AI technologies so that developing countries can benefit from knowledge transfer, expertise and capacity-building opportunities.

Ms. Alsheli reaffirmed the Center’s commitment to foster inclusive participation, support researchers and policymakers, and empower women and youth to strengthen countries’ readiness to leverage advanced technologies.

He also emphasized that ICAIRE continues to support countries through capacity-building programs and contribute to the development of AI policy and governance.

He highlighted the Center’s support in implementing UNESCO’s AI Readiness Assessment methodology and providing practical tools and international expertise to help countries move from strategy development to implementation and measurable impact.

ICAIRE emphasized the importance of building community-wide capacity in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030, promoting the responsible use of AI, and translating global priorities into practical initiatives that benefit countries and societies around the world.

ICAIRE, officially established in 2023 and headquartered in the Kingdom’s capital, is dedicated to bridging the gap between advanced technology and moral responsibility.

We actively lead global efforts to implement UNESCO’s AI Ethics Recommendations, publish specialized research, and build international competency networks.
