The use of AI and generative AI in games is gaining more and more attention, but one upcoming release that has no plans to use this technology in its development is Exodus. Despite the technological wonders of the gaming world, Archetype Entertainment wants to leverage human talent to bring games to life.
At least that's according to co-founder Chad Robertson, who spoke with Eurogamer about the use of AI in the game. First of all, he confirmed that all of Matthew McConaughey's vocal lines were recorded directly by himself. “Everything on Exodus, 100% of what is on Exodus, is VO recordings that were custom recorded just for us.” he said. “He has a completely separate deal with ElevenLabs for his own design, which happens to be one of the most well-known AI voice generation tools and is also used by other video game companies. This will allow people to utilize his voice in a different way in non-bespoke VO sessions.”
“As far as games go, we have no plans to use generative AI for any elements.” he continued. “However, we reserve the right to change that if necessary to deliver the game at the quality we require or on the schedule or budget we require. But at this time, that is not our plan.”
Exodus is currently scheduled for release in early 2027. As of now, Archetype has no plans to use AI, but perhaps in future projects the technology could provide some assistance as long as it doesn't impact the creators.
