Everything you need to know about this new AI tool

AI Video & Visuals

When the AI battle gets heated, one of the pioneers looks ready to make things a notch. Midjourney is known for generating extremely high quality AI images. Currently, it is officially deploying its first public AI video generator. This is a much-anticipated feature that allows users to use AI to animate static images into short clips. Whether images are generated on the platform or uploaded by users, MidJourney's new tools can do that.

This new feature is currently accessible from the Midjourney website and from the Discord Server. Users can now generate images and click on the new animated button. By tapping it, create a 5-second clip. This clip can be extended to 4 seconds with a maximum video length of 21 seconds. There are also high and low motion settings that control whether both the subject and camera move, or just the subject. This allows users to have more control over the video generated by AI.

Additionally, there are two animation options: It is a manual mode that allows you to accurately explain the default movements that add subtle movement effects and how animations work.

To use the video generator, users currently need an active Midjourney subscription. Plans start at $10 per month (approximately $866). This means that the GPU speed is approximately 3.3 hours. However, video generation is highly resource intensive and costs around 8 times the GPU time of a single image job, or about 1 image credit per second for a video.

In the post, founder David Holtz called this first release a stepping stone. However, Disney and Universal have raised concerns about video generators that could infringe copyrighted material, which has also cost the mid-journey.

With competition from Google Veo, Meta, Openai and others, Midjourney must go ahead in this race to make a lasting impact in the market.
