TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took a major detour en route to another division title.
After Baker Mayfield suffered a shoulder injury, the team, which started the season 6-2, was in jeopardy of making the playoffs.
The Buccaneers (6-5) lost 34-7 to the Los Angeles Rams, suffering another loss due to Mayfield’s injury. Coach Todd Bowles said Monday that the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback suffered an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder. His condition for this week’s game against Arizona is unclear, as he will need an MRI scan to confirm. If Mayfield is unavailable, Teddy Bridgewater, who played in the second half against Los Angeles, will start.
“This is a huge loss considering how he played and led us the last few weeks and last year,” Bowles said. “At the same time, we all trust Teddy. We know what he’s capable of and we know what level of confidence he brings. It’s a different kind of energy, but it’s still an energy that we all feed off of and look forward to.”
Tampa Bay is reeling after losing three straight to the Rams, Bills and Patriots. After Carolina’s 20-9 loss to San Francisco on Monday night, the Buccaneers have a half-game lead over the Panthers (6-6) and are in first place in the NFC South.
The two teams will meet in Week 16, the final weekend of the regular season. The Bucks have struggled against winning teams since defeating the Seahawks (8-3) and 49ers (7-4) in back-to-back games.

It’s definitely on us, the coaches and the players’ locker room. We are our problem, but we are also our solution.”
