We are entering a new era of flexible working experimentation – structured and flexible working. To keep working in a way that benefits both employees and the organization, leaders look to data to guide decision-making on everything from when to meet in person to how to hold effective and inclusive meetings. need to do it. In this series, we ask business leaders about what’s helping them get to work right now, from apps they can’t live without to how they separate work and life. This month, we spoke with ESPN’s Talent Mobility Manager, Dayana Falcon. Falcon strives to create opportunities for people across the company, with our internal experience at the forefront. career center (internal career development hub inspired by the company’s flagship program, sports Center) The All-Star Talent Showcase is a bracket-style competition focused on the best work across the company.
Whether employees work at ESPN’s Bristol, Connecticut headquarters or, like Falcon, in Los Angeles, it’s all about creating a community around career advancement. That community begins with the curiosity of its leaders, she says. “Ask people where they want to make an impact. Ask people what they want to do more or less. Ask people what business problems they want to solve. Please don’t ask.”
And, fittingly, she says the community should feel like a winning franchise. “It’s important to think of the company as a team,” she says. Here’s how she brings the game to herself wherever she works.
Fridays without meetings: I go to the office four days a week and work from home on Fridays. Friday is a non-meeting day. It’s a creative day for me, a catch-up day, a day to wrap up the week and plan for the next. This is the border I set to fit in the appropriate headspace.
paper planner: I have a cool planner with one sheet for each week. We don’t put all our meetings there. It’s on the digital calendar. In the planner, write down your main focus for each day. It’s a bird’s eye view of what I’m trying to achieve that day, that week, the result, not the deliverable.
essential oil: I have an essential oil diffuser and a spray. I have different oils for different purposes. When I need to get creative, I use citrus. When I want to be more introspective, I do tea tree. I use it to set my intentions firmly on whatever I have to accomplish that day. No candles or essential oils are allowed in the office. So I tried to incorporate self-care into the way I work.
Next-gen AI: I learn by doing, and I love experimenting with different AI tools. I use that as inspiration. “I’m going to say all these things, what’s a better way to say it?” is: What am I missing?” I use this to fill in gaps and delve deeper into a subject in a very short amount of time.
LinkedIn: Search LinkedIn by location and people who work for your company to find people to connect with and learn from in our Brazil office. We could have done this before the pandemic, but I think because we were in the office so much, people were more inclined to do projects with people who were close to them. We can now have a global mindset, which opens up so many opportunities. It is important not to work in silos. Thanks to technology, we can access whole new networks and redesign the way we work across locations.
Garden oasis: I find inspiration in nature and do my best work outdoors with the sun on my face. Choosing where to work has made a huge difference for my creativity. When I work from home, I do my creative work outside in my beautiful garden.it feels like snow white A garden where you can hear birds chirping.
