Vocify Inc., also known as Vellum, the leading enterprise development platform for the construction, testing and deployment of artificial intelligence-powered applications, today announced it has raised $20 million in early stage funding to expand its product portfolio and grow in the market.
The company's Series A funding round was led by the Leader Fund with participation from Socii Capital and a return from Investor Y Combinator, Rebel Fund, Pioneer Fund and EastLink Capital.
By using nodes and low code to write directly from the visual user interface and connecting to large language models, Vellum offers a powerful sensual interface that enables both highly technical developers and non-technical employees to quickly prototype AI applications.
“While generative AI captures the imagination of almost every industry, turning that potential into a reliable production-ready system is a major challenge,” said Akash Sharma, co-founder and CEO of Vellum. “For a lot of teams, it still feels like a speculation. Velum changes that.”
The company's platform provides all the infrastructure you host in the cloud or locally to connect AI models, tools and business data to one location and streamline from prototype to production. This includes orchestrating, assessing, experimenting, testing, and deployment and monitoring of development workflows after application is deployed.
“We believe that true test-driven development is the standard AI team needed to build systems that can be trusted and controlled as they grow,” Sharma said. “Every part of our platform is designed based on this principle.”
The idea behind Vellum is to allow teams to collaborate in AI applications, regardless of their technical expertise. Canvas is highly customizable with out-of-the-box nodes for common AI operations, such as search extension generation, image scans, and the ability to define custom nodes.
Essentially, engineers and developers receive access to software development kits that can be imported into their development environment, allowing them to directly control and edit the code. Meanwhile, product managers and domain experts can use Visual Builder to shape AI behavior without writing code. This collaborative landscape means that everyone works in the same space and shares the same view, but from different perspectives, teamwork can be synchronized.
Vellum already boasts several major customers, including Drata Inc., Swisscom AG, Redfin Corp. and Headspace. The customer uses the platform to build AI applications for numerous use cases, including customer support for content generation agents.
Swisscom is a major Swiss telecommunications provider and a major IT company. According to Vellum, the company made the platform a core part of the AI platform, providing Swiss banks and governments a safe and reliable way to build AI apps.
“Velum was a multiplier of the power for AI efforts. Their test-driven approach helps you gain regression early and quickly iterate,” says Lior Solomon, Vice President of Engineering at Drata, which provides corporate security and compliance automation for businesses.
Sharma said the new funding will allow Vellum to increase the number of AI use cases deployed through the platform, reduce the time to production of apps built on infrastructure, expand its market presence and innovate with existing product stacks.
“We're building standards not just for software, but for how the world builds AI products,” says Sharma. “For everyone who ventures beyond prototypes where quality and reliability are important, Vellum is your foundation.”
