Artificial intelligence (AI) will soon impact decision-making in Dubai, especially around predictive maintenance of roads and bridges, public transport route planning, congestion management and more.
This comes as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched an “enterprise platform” for designing and developing AI and data science solutions. It helps RTA process the data it owns and restructure it to train machine learning models across its operations.
Applications include analyzing traffic data, identifying patterns and forecasts, which contribute to efficient road network planning and reduce traffic congestion.
RTA Executive Director and Board Chairman Matar Al-Tayer said: “The launch of this platform confirms RTA’s commitment to driving Dubai’s transition to become the world’s smartest city. We aim to improve performance and service efficiency.”

He said RTA has one of the UAE’s largest big data platforms in terms of storage capacity. “It benefits from existing historical data and is linked with an AI platform to develop use cases that meet RTA’s strategic and operational requirements,” he said.
The AI Platform serves as the foundation for executing various projects within RTA’s AI Project Roadmap. “This is not only about providing AI-integrated smart services to improve both customer and employee experience and expedite the processing of administrative tasks, but also various domains covering predictive maintenance of RTA’s assets and property. It covers over 100 use cases across
“The use of predictive maintenance of roads and bridges, public transport network planning, and crowd management are key use cases that point to the RTA’s direction to incorporate AI technology into all systems by 2031. This is the UAE. ’s AI strategy, demonstrating the importance of data and AI supporting decision-making and anticipating future requirements.”
AI platforms have the ability to train deep machine learning models. We provide dozens of pre-built algorithms for machine learning so you don’t have to write source code. It also provides a mechanism to compare the performance of algorithms in terms of speed and accuracy so that you can choose the best one to use.
This allows RTA to monitor the performance of machine learning models, implement mechanisms to interpret AI model decisions, as well as develop AI use cases and integrate them into various systems such as websites and digital apps. will be It also guarantees that the AI model will not make decisions contrary to the principles and ethics set by the Dubai Digital Authority.
“RTA is training several Emirates in leadership, oversight and technical roles, enabling them to analyze data to extract information that supports decision-making, and developing use cases on RTA’s AI platform. This will also increase our reliance on in-house resources.”We encourage development across the board,” the agency added.
