A recent Gallup survey of U.S. workers found that seven in 10 U.S. employees don't use artificial intelligence (AI) at all in their jobs, and only one in 10 said they use AI at least once a week.
Last year, Gallup published findings that 10% of employees use AI frequently:
- 43% use it to perform everyday tasks.
- 32% To learn something new.
- 25% identify the problem;
- 19% goes into setting up, operating and monitoring complex equipment and devices.
- 15% for customer interactions/transactions.
- 11% To collaborate with colleagues.
Gallup data shows that employers often don't know how often their employees are using AI and why. The research firm asked global chief human resources officers (CHROs) from functions that support the most culture change how often their employees are using AI in their work. Nearly half (44%) of leaders didn't know.
Gallup data shows that leaders believe their employees are less ready to use AI than employees feel about their own readiness to use it: According to a May 2023 Gallup Workforce Survey, nearly half (47%) of employees feel ready to use AI in their roles, yet only 16% of CHROs believe their teams are ready for AI adoption.
Still, a majority of Americans (75%) believe AI will reduce the total number of jobs over the next decade, according to a Gallup poll. U.S. adults with less than a bachelor's degree are more likely to say AI will reduce the number of jobs than those with a bachelor's degree or higher: 80% vs. 68%, respectively.
However, most Americans believe AI can perform as well as or better than humans when it comes to customizing the content users see online and recommending products and services. Americans are least optimistic about AI's ability to recommend which employees a company should hire, self-driving car capabilities, and AI's ability to recommend medical advice.
