“We specialize in weather forecasting. Weather is local, with communities large and small. AI with avatars and AI technology allows us to provide more localized weather forecasts to every community across Canada and around the world,” said Maureen Rogers, managing director of editorial and public alerts at The Weather Network.

But of course, launching something like this came with a lot of mixed emotions, especially in terms of using the technology in a safe and professional way.

“We're doing the right thing, we're acting with respect towards our staff internally and the community externally, so it was important for us to lead the way in this effort,” Rogers added.

According to Nana Banerjee, president and CEO of Pelmorex, any use of the likeness of a meteorologist or company employee requires explicit consent and agreement to participate. The team received full guidance and support throughout the creation of this first avatar.
