Bengaluru: A video purportedly showing Police Commissioner (Civil Rights Enforcement Bureau) Ramachandra Rao in a compromising situation inside his official office went viral on social media on Monday. However, Rao dismissed the footage as “generated by artificial intelligence” and called for a formal investigation into its origins.
The 47-second video, which was widely circulated on social media platforms, is about five years old and dates back to Rao’s tenure as Belagavi Inspector General of Police (IGP). The video purportedly shows Rao, wearing a uniform and sitting on a chair, interacting closely with a woman who approaches him inside the chamber. In one part of the video, the officer can be seen hugging the woman, and in another, they are said to be sharing a kiss. The woman is seen wearing a churidar in one part and a sari in another part.
After the distribution of the video, Mr. Rao visited Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara’s residence in Bengaluru and explained his position. However, he reportedly returned to Japan without meeting the minister.
Following the controversy, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told reporters in Belagavi that disciplinary action would be initiated against Mr. Rao irrespective of his rank after a detailed investigation into the matter.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Rao strongly denied the allegations and questioned the authenticity of the video. “It’s all a lie. We don’t know who the woman is,” he said, adding that he suspected a rival was involved in the creation and distribution of the alleged secret video. He formally requested an investigation into the matter.
Ramachandra Rao is also known as the stepfather of actress Ranya Rao, who was arrested by the Revenue Intelligence Bureau in connection with the gold smuggling case at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, where she arrived from Dubai last year. She is currently lodged in Bangalore Central Jail.
