Mumbai: The report states that the demand for artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) engineers is seeing a significant increase from 2022 onwards. Demand for these roles has surged by 433%, reflecting the growing reliance on artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques across various sectors. This was followed by the demand for business process outsourcing (BPO) executives, which increased by 314%, highlighting the continued expansion of the outsourcing and customer service industries, the Indeed report said.
The two roles, while requiring vastly different skills, are driving significant employment growth at both ends of the skills spectrum, the report said. The report is based on demand data across occupations and industries on job-seeking platform Indeed from January 2022 to June 2024. The report further states that AI/ML engineers represent a highly specialised technical role, while BPO executives show robust demand for a more generalised, customer-focused role. Meanwhile, the report revealed that receptionists, travel consultants and electricians also featured on the list, indicating diversity in roles in demand.
Job postings for receptionists increased by 310 percent, highlighting the need for effective front office management and customer relations. Meanwhile, job postings for travel consultants increased by 285 percent, suggesting that the travel and tourism sector is reviving as people regain confidence in travel after the pandemic, the report said. The trend is likely driven by a combination of increased leisure travel and a resumption of business travel, reflecting a broader recovery in the tourism sector, it added. By sector, the sanitation and construction industries also saw the highest growth, with job postings increasing by 160 percent and 121 percent respectively, the report found.
Electrical engineers are in high demand, with job postings growing 258 percent, signaling a surge in infrastructure projects and real estate developments requiring skilled tradespeople, the company said. Sectors such as education and medical research also saw significant hiring growth, reflecting the growing demand for healthcare and education services, it said. “These trends provide valuable insights for both job seekers and employers, signaling that both hi-tech and service-oriented roles are essential to the evolving employment landscape,” said Sashi Kumar, head of sales, Indeed India.
