Delhi Police will use AI-enabled smart glasses equipped with an integrated facial recognition system and thermal imaging technology for security measures on Republic Day, it announced on Wednesday.
one senior executive said hinduism AjnaLens, an Indian company that supplies XR (augmented reality) technology-based devices to the armed forces and the Defense Research and Development Organization, has reportedly provided 100 such smart glasses to the Delhi Police free of charge.
The smart glasses will be distributed to police officers stationed on Kartaviya Road and police officers in patrol units.
Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Malla said the smart glasses will be linked to police databases, giving frontline personnel instant access to information. “With real-time updates, these glasses will help police officers scan individuals and suspects at Republic Day venues and other nearby areas,” Mara said.
How smart glasses work
Once scanned, the smart glasses will display the person inside a red or green box. He said: “If a person appears in a green box, it means they are not involved in any crime; if they appear in a red box, it means they have a criminal record.”
The smart glasses are also equipped with thermal imaging technology to help police officers spot people carrying concealed metal objects or weapons. “This technology significantly enhances scene identification and reduces reliance on manual inspection. Thermal imaging capabilities help officers identify suspicious objects and weapons that are invisible to the naked eye,” the officer said.
Other security procedures
Delhi Police has also ramped up CCTV surveillance, drone-based surveillance and facial recognition software. “Vehicles that repeatedly circle the same area will also be kept under surveillance by patrol staff,” the police officer said.
More than 10,000 police officers will be deployed along the parade route and in key areas on Republic Day as part of a multi-layered security plan.
