DE-CIX launches AI Readed Internet Exchange to power real-time applications

Applications of AI

I'm reading Antrepreneur India, an international franchise of entrepreneur media.

De-Cix, a leading Internet Exchange operator, has announced the launch of the world's first fully integrated AI Internet Exchange (AI-IX).

The platform is designed to provide high-performance interconnection for artificial intelligence applications, addressing the surge in AI-powered services.

AI-IX is already live in Europe's largest internet exchange in Frankfurt and is deployed in all DE-CIX locations around the world, including Mumbai's largest interconnection platform. The first phase involves over 50 AI-related networks, including GPUs and inference service providers, to ensure resilient, low-latency connectivity.

“With various forecasts for millions of AI agents coming, the need for interconnected services to support our businesses has increased dramatically,” said Ivo Ivanov, CEO of De-Cix. He added that direct interconnections are essential for companies to leverage AI potential in sectors such as robotics, autonomous vehicles and real-time analytics.

During phase 2 of the rollout, Exchange will become ultra-Ethernet compatible, enabling distributed AI model training. This move reduces reliance on centralized data centers by training across metropolitan areas.

“To date, we've had to quickly handle AI computational loads in parallel clusters, so we needed huge centralized data centers,” explained Dr. Thomas King, CTO at DE-CIX. “Ultra Ethernet drives the trend towards disintegrated computing, enabling a more cost-effective and resilient AI infrastructure.”

The company said both phases will come together to position DE-CIX as the first operator to support AI inference and training on a global scale.
