The cutting-edge AI-powered enterprise IT report reveals how AI is reshaping the role of IT, from support and services to strategic value drivers

new york, November 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Aterathe #1 AI platform for IT management, today announced Cutting-edge enterprise IT reporting powered by AI Based on a survey of more than 1,000 CIOs and IT VPs from U.S. organizations. This study reveals a new mission for CIOs in the AI-powered IT industry. It’s about leading a company’s transformation.

“AI may be transforming operations, but IT leaders are transforming the enterprise,” said Gil Pekelman, CEO of Atera. “The data is clear: AI agents can unlock entirely new realities and autonomously predict, learn, and take action. The mission of CIOs is to lead enterprise IT with AI and drive measurable business value across the organization.”

AI is rewriting CIO strategy.

Artificial intelligence is redefining what it means to be a leader in IT, with a whopping 63% of IT leaders reporting that their role has evolved due to advances in AI. No longer measured solely in system uptime or ticket resolution, today’s IT leaders are increasingly responsible for driving business value. Almost half (49%) cite business value leadership of developing strategy and connecting AI to revenue and growth as the top area of increasing importance, and 47% cite coordinating human-AI collaboration as a key change in the role.

But this evolution isn’t just redefining leadership titles, it’s also showing up in our day-to-day work. The same AI capabilities that are driving strategic change are also reshaping the foundations of IT operations themselves. The benefits of AI are clear. A whopping 74% said they could reduce nearly half (at least 41%) of their Tier-1 support tasks (repetitive troubleshooting and routine requests) by implementing autonomous AI agents. When AI enhances support, routing, diagnostics, and knowledge sharing, lost time is recovered and tangible benefits are realized across the enterprise.

The value of AI goes far beyond IT.

The CIO’s mission now extends far beyond IT. IT leaders surveyed say the scope of their strategic decisions now includes customer experience (41%), human resources (41%), finance (39%), ethics and compliance (39%), and operations (38%). These changes highlight how AI is transforming IT from a cost center to a catalyst for value creation across the enterprise. CIOs are at the center of business strategy and are responsible for ensuring that AI delivers measurable outcomes across the organization.

The impact of AI is no longer limited to IT departments. According to the report, 71% of IT leaders say AI is now embedded in non-IT functions such as human resources, operations, and finance. This widespread adoption is driving measurable improvements across the business. Nearly all respondents rated operational efficiency (91%), employee productivity (91%), customer and stakeholder impact (92%), business growth (92%), and governance and resilience (90%) as at least somewhat important to their role.

Ultimately, IT has become the connective tissue that ties together various business functions, enabling better alignment of technology and strategy and redefining how work gets done.

Ownership and execution remain challenges.

Despite increasing adoption, only 12% of IT leaders say AI ownership within their organization is “very clear and fully standardized,” while 37% say it is somewhat unclear or very unclear. In organizations with clearly defined ownership, responsibility most often lies with IT/technology (42%), but respondents also cited finance, legal/compliance, human resources, and cybersecurity, reflecting how AI is impacting nearly every business function. This lack of clarity leads to a patchwork of oversight, with multiple teams pursuing their own initiatives, often without coordination or shared goals.

Execution is also a major barrier, with 67% reporting moderate to very difficulty managing cross-functional initiatives while maintaining core operations. Many organizations have a vision for AI-driven transformation, but lack the structure, resources, or simplicity needed to move from pilot project to scalable deployment.

As the CIO’s mission continues to evolve, organizations that embrace IT leadership, foster cross-functional collaboration, and establish clear ownership will be best positioned to realize the full value of AI. Atera is at the forefront of this transformation, helping IT leaders realize new missions through AI agents. In fact, Atera achieved 500% sales growth in 2025 alone for its patented AI agent, AI Copilot, a technician assistant, and IT Autopilot, an end-user self-service agent for autonomous resolution.
