While more and more applications are getting AI overhauls, new F5 research claims that only 2% of companies are ready for AI.
Over one in five (21%) falls into the low-preparation category, with three-quarters (77%) being considered moderately prepared, but continue to face security and governance hurdles.
This is because one of the four applications uses AI, and many organizations split AI usage into multiple models, including paid models such as GPT-4 and open source models such as Llama, Mistral and Gemma.
Companies do not benefit from accessible AI
While 71% of the AI Application Strategy Report said that respondents will use AI to enhance security, F5 highlighted the ongoing challenges in security and governance. Less than one in three (31%) deploys AI firewalls, and only 24% perform continuous data labeling, which could increase risk.
In the future, one in two (47%) say they plan to deploy AI firewalls next year. F5 also encourages businesses to expand their use of AI for paid and open source open and open source open, manipulation, analysis and security, as well as deploy AI-specific protections such as firewalls and data governance strategies.
At this point, two-thirds (65%) use two or more paid models and at least one open source model, which is estimated to show significant room for improvement.
“As AI is at the heart of your business strategy, preparation requires more than experimentation. Security, scalability, and alignment,” explained F5 CPO and CMO John Maddison.
The report highlights how lack of maturity can curb growth, introduce operational bottlenecks and implement compliance challenges.
“AI is already transforming security operations, but without mature governance and dedicated protection, businesses risk amplifying threats,” added Maddison.
