Social media platform X has announced a new policy that will suspend creators from its revenue sharing program for 90 days if they post AI-generated videos of armed conflict without proper disclosure. The move, revealed Tuesday, is aimed at addressing concerns about the reliability of information shared during the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, according to a company statement.

Policy changes targeting AI-generated content

Company X executives said the policy specifically targets the threat posed by unreleased AI-generated videos depicting war. The company explained that the dissemination of such content poses a significant risk to the reliability of information, especially during periods of conflict. Nikita Beer, head of product at Company X, emphasized the importance of access to real information, saying, “During wartime, it’s important that people have access to real information on the ground.”

Mr. Beer also emphasized that current AI technology can easily be used to create misleading content, saying that it is now “easy to create content that can mislead people.”

Continuous policy improvement

X indicated that the platform will continue to refine its policies and products to ensure reliability in critical moments. In a statement released Monday, the company said it is committed to continuous improvements to maintain the authenticity of the information shared on its platform.

“During wartime, it’s important that people have access to authentic information on the ground,” said Nikita Beer, head of product at X.

The new disclosure requirements mark a major shift in X’s approach to content moderation, as the platform has faced criticism over its handling of misinformation, especially since its acquisition by Elon Musk.

Sources said the policy change is part of a broader effort by Company X to address the challenges posed by rapidly advancing AI technology and the potential for spreading misleading or false information on sensitive global matters.
