SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Artificial intelligence is appearing in more places than ever before, including in high school sports recruiting.
Some athletes are now experimenting with AI tools to enhance their highlight videos before sending them to college programs.
For ARC Salt Lake, Rivals national recruiting analyst Brandon Huffman said that trend is starting to surface among some recruits.

Huffman, who has more than 20 years of recruiting experience, said the use of AI can sometimes be detected when highlight clips are altered or look unrealistic.
In some cases, editing may exaggerate a player’s speed, improve lighting, or smooth out mistakes in a way that does not accurately reflect the player’s performance.
Recruiting analysts and college coaches are also wary of other attempts to manipulate highlight films, such as selective editing that hides weak plays and misleading camera angles that make players appear faster or stronger than they really are.
Huffman said that while some recruits may see AI as a shortcut to standing out, the risks could ultimately hurt their chances in college programs.
If a coach believes the film is being manipulated, trust with the recruit can be quickly eroded.
That’s one reason why many programs still place great value in watching athletes compete in person.
Live evaluations allow coaches to see how players perform in real match situations. This can’t be fully recreated with highlight reels or AI enhancements.
