Citizens is currently accepting applications for the 2026 Champions in Action grant program “Building AI Readiness and Capacity.”
We will provide $50,000 in funding, local media coverage, volunteer support, and promotional opportunities to nonprofits working to build AI readiness and organizational capacity.
aAccording to the Champions in Action webpage: “At Citizens, we are proud to champion organizations that lead change and embrace innovation to strengthen their impact.
“These organizations are rising now to explore responsible and practical applications of AI to expand their digital capabilities, improve program delivery, serve more people, and operate more efficiently.”
Eligibility requirements include:
- Be a nonprofit organization based in New Jersey (or several other states in the citizen footprint)
- Offer 1-2 volunteer projects, including at least one skills-based volunteer project that your civic colleagues can participate in.
- Have a total operating budget between $250,000 and $5 million.
Application deadline is March 13th. Winners will be announced in July 2026.
Previous Champions in Action may reapply after five years.
Since its inception 24 years ago, Champions in Action has provided more than $12.3 million in unrestricted grants and promotional support to more than 400 nonprofit organizations across the civic spectrum.
