The arms race in the field of generative artificial intelligence has reached a new level, and today the main front line of the conflict is video generation. Chinese AI startups and tech giants are starting to show significant advantages over their Western competitors in this space. The demand for high-quality, fast, and low-cost video content generation for advertising, entertainment, and e-commerce is rapidly increasing, and Chinese solutions are currently considered the most dynamic and promising.
China’s AI model
Chinese developers have presented a number of tools that have received high praise from experts and users for the realism and accuracy of command execution. Some of the leaders are:
- Kling is a neural network that allows you to create detailed videos with smooth motion and the physics of natural objects.
- Seedance 2.0 is ByteDance’s model that shows superior results in understanding dynamic scenes.
- Hailuo is an AI tool known for its stable images and minimal visual artifacts.
These models often show the best results in text prompt accuracy and provide more stable images and natural scene dynamics compared to available Western models.
The main advantage of Chinese companies such as ByteDance and Kuaishou is their unique access to vast amounts of data. Short video platforms (TikTok and Kuaishou in China) provide endless educational material. This allows the model to better understand the laws of motion, object interactions, and frame composition. US companies such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic are finding it much more difficult to access video arrays of this scale to train their algorithms.
Google’s Veo 3 and its Chinese counterpart
Despite America’s dominance in LLMs and coding, it faces obstacles in video. Google’s US model Veo 3 is technically powerful, but its flexibility is often limited by strict security policies and content requirements. Chinese services are often more faithful to user requests, block generation less frequently, and offer a wider range of creatives. Additionally, Celestial tools often offer more favorable terms, such as flexible subscription or pay-as-you-go models, making them affordable for even small studios.
Challenges of video generation technology
Despite its success, the video generation sector faces serious challenges. First, video creation is a very expensive process in terms of computing resources and power. Previously, even industry leader OpenAI was forced to change implementation dates for some video projects due to extremely high infrastructure costs. Furthermore, the active use of content on the Internet gives rise to intense legal disputes regarding copyright.
